Small group Tuition 1:3
£14 per child for a 50 minute tuition session
These sessions can be perfect for children who need a general boost. Small sessions allow interaction between students - I encourage the students to share ideas with each other. Also, some children like the reassurance of other children around them who are working at the same level. A great opportunity for your child to embrace online technology safely and securely; and to build positive online communication skills with other children. 😊
1:1 Tuition
£27 for a 50 minute session
These sessions are particularly suitable for children who have special educational needs, or who are lacking in confidence in larger groups. If your child has special education needs and is struggling with concentration, then shorter sessions can be arranged at a reduced price. In consultation with parents/carers and often the children themselves. Each child has their own Personal Progression Plan and progress shared is weekly by myself with the parent/carer/guardian.
larger group Tuition 1:6
£7 per child for a 50 minute tuition session
These sessions are generally suited to slightly older children (aged 9 to 11). Children in these groups tend to be more confident and often like the collaboration, and competition element, of the larger groups! For these children, progression plans are shared but progress reports remain individual. It's a great opportunity for older children to learn and practise the 'soft' skills of IT, to use online technology to communicate in a safe and secure environment and to learn how to build respectful and harmonious relationships online.
All year 6 children in England sit SATs test every year in reading, spelling, grammar and maths. Writing is usually assessed by the class teacher and often moderated with an external assessor.
Parents and carers who choose the services of a private tutor, such as myself, are investing heavily in their children's future high school education; as SATs scores are often used by the high schools (in addition with transition meetings and CATs tests) to 'set' children in reading, writing and maths.
Therefore, many parents and carers are obviously keen for their children to perform to their very best ability in these tests.
It maybe that your child has specific educational needs such as dyslexia, AHD or ADHD. Often, schools will be able to apply for special access arrangements for SEND children. However, much of the additional help available must be proved to be part of the child's usual provision in class. For example, if a child has a teaching assistant who generally scribes their answers, this can be allowed in SATs test, providing the school applies for this provision.
Children who generally find formal class learning, and accelerated curriculum demands challenging, may also find their self-esteem and anxiety levels dropping. In this instance, 1:1 or small group sessions with an experienced private tutor, such as myself, will quickly help to build confidence and ultimately, independence and self-belief. A lot of children respond well in small group tutoring as they like the familiarity of having other children learning alongside them - obviously all of very similar academic abilities.
I find that 'high-flying children', who are intrinsically motivated and enjoy pace and challenge, also 'fly higher' when boosted by a private tutor in a larger group of six students. These are the children who are confident learners and like the competition with the other children in their group.
This is why I offer a variety of tutoring options as one size does not fit all children.
I also offer group training sessions for specific learning opportunities - e.g. sessions on place value in maths; specific sessions on creative writing or persuasive writing; sessions on using specific grammar such as the passive tense. Please see my Facebook page for details.
